Veterans find it desperately difficult to readjust to civilian life after 20 years of war and military service with over 20 a day taking their own lives. Golf is a proven, effective tool in the rehabilitation process, healing the invisible and visible wounds that service members and veterans face all too often. Unfortunately, due to the lack of golf course facilities dedicated to wounded service members and veterans, the sport is a largely underleveraged resource to help with the significant obstacles that these men and women face.
The goal of WOTG, in partnership with our donors, is to create golf training facilities adjacent to military installation golf courses across the nation. These facilities will be reserved for the instruction, practice, and on-course play of wounded, ill or injured service members, veterans and their families. They will be designed to adapt to the specialized needs of these service members and veterans and will be conducive to learning and improving at each golfer’s own pace. It is our hope that, through this unique initiative, increased numbers of service members and veterans will find themselves outdoors, gaining new skills and confidence, and living more meaningful and prosperous lives.
